THE RAIN POURS

THE RAIN POURS

S.JENSEN © 2018

WITH ARMS

TIGHTENING AROUND

HER

IMPERCEPTIBLY

LIKE A WARM

COCOON

REMAINING SILENT

FOR SEVERAL

MOMENTS

CONSIDERING

HER WORDS

CAREFULLY

SNUGGLED CLOSER

AND ARMS

AROUND HER

WAIST

FOR BALANCE

WHILE GETTING

ON THE BIKE

RIDING DOWN

THE COAST LINE

ALL SHE COULD

THINK ON

IS THE CONVERSATION

THEY HAD

SUDDEN WEARINESS

OVERWHELMED

HER

YET THEY

HAD STAYED UP

ALL NIGHT

DRINKING

AND

TALKING

ON EVERYTHING

FROM PAST

AND THINGS

IN THEIR LIVES

WONDERING

THE REASONING

OH WHY

DID WE BOTH

PLAY THE

HARD BALL CARD

ITS NOT

SOMETHING

EITHER OF US

WOULD

HAVE DONE

LONG AGO

IN THE COURSE

OF OUR

DESIRE

DREAMS FLOW

SOMETHING

IN US BOTH

CAME ALIVE

NO DENYING

OH THE SEASONS

NOW CHANGE

AND DREAMS

LONG GONE AWAY

BUT WE ARE

NO LONGER

YOUNG

AND SO INNOCENT

BUT OH

SHE CAN BE

SO NAIVE

YEP I CAN BE

UNDERNEATH THE

YEARS OF WALLS

BUILT

THE ICY FOLDS

MELTED

AND THEN SOLIDIFIED

ALL OVER AGAIN

IS THERE

A SIMILAR GOAL

THAT CRAVES

AND TO

THE PERSON

IN FRONT OF HER

OH THE SOARING

PEAKS IN

THIS FIRE

WE BUILT

EMBERS GLOW

WITH SOME KIND

OF ENDLESS

PURSUIT

NOW FAST REALITY

CONFIDENCE

LATELY SCREAMS

OUT A SMILE

WIDE AND STRAIGHT

OH WE BURNED

BACK THEN

NOW SHARP INCLINES

COVER

OUR TRACKS

OH TO THE

LOST VANTAGE POINTS

WHERE IT

ALL BEGAN

IS SO A BLUR

OH DID SHE DARE

TO THINK

ANYTHING AT ALL

WOULD EVER

BE DIFFERENT

OH TO THE

FORCE FED HEARTBEATS

AS THE SPEED

RUSHES

IN

FASTER

PACES AND

RAIN SOAKED

STRAIGHT THROUGH

HER JEANS

PRICKING THE SKIN

AS IT HIT

BUT NOT HARMING

JUST LIGHTLY

SPRAYING DOWN

WATCHING THE BEADS

FALL OVER

THE LEATHER JACKET

NOT SEEING

HER FACE

FROM THE SHIELD

IN FRONT

PROTECTING HER

OH THE HARD

STING OF RAIN

REFRESHING

CLEANSING

IN A BEAT

TO THE CORE

OF HER SOUL

THIS RISE IN PULSE

SPARKS BETWEEN

SO WELL KNOWN

SHE HELD ON

TIGHTER

AND LEANED

INTO THE JACKET

BACK

THE WARMTH

AND BREEZE

MINGLED TOGETHER

THE WAVES OF WATER

RUSHING IN THE TIDES

FROM THE COAST LINE

AND BLURRED

GREYS WITH

MELLOW YELLOWS

SHINING IN BETWEEN

AS THE SUN SETS

THE TRIP WASN’T

THAT LONG

TO THE SPACE

OF DRYING GRACE

ANOTHER

BLOCK OR SO

INTO THE DRIVEWAY

THE RAIN

BEGINS TO BLIND

SO PERFECT

TIMING

HEARING THE

VOICE MUFFLED

AS SHE GETS OFF

SHE SAYS SORRY

DIDN’T GET THAT

SHE SAYS GO TO THE DOOR

OH AH OK…

RUNNING THE BIKE

IN THE GARAGE

SHE GOES

AT THE DOOR

SHAKING OFF

THE WATER

FROM HER HAIR

PUSHING IT

BACK

SEEMED SO

AWKWARD NOW

CHECKING THE

BAG ITS STILL

DRY

LOOKING DOWN

AT THE MAT

STANDING THERE

WAITING

AND WAITING

SEEMS FOREVER

WIPING FEET

AND THEN

FEELING COLD

HANDS AROUND

HER WAIST

AND A HEAD BEND

DOWN

TO THE BACK OF

THE SHOULDER

THE WARM

MOIST KISS TO THE NECK

OH HOW

SHE JUST MELTS

LEANING TO THE DOOR

AND A SIGH

COMES FROM HER

MOUTH

IN THAT INSTANT

KNOWING

WE HAVE

DISCUSSED THIS

BUT UNTIL

THAT MOMENT

IT JUST SEEMED

SO RIGHT

THE MAJOR

ELECTRIC FIRE

FLOWS DOWN

INTO THE PIT OF

HER STOMACH

OH SO ITS

REALLY

REAL

SO HIGH

WAY DOWN

SO DAMN GOOD

FEELING

SHE SAYS TO HER

NEVER LET GO

OF THAT

FEELING

SHE UNLOCKS

THE DOOR

AND

IN WE GO...

I WAKE UP…

SIGH.
