FLICKERING SHIMMERING
REFLECTIONS
OF A MERE SECOND
FLASH
HOVERING AROUND
THEN GONE
IN THE GREY
I WALKED
TO SEE
THE FOG IS STRONG
AND SPEARS
LINE THE GROUND
GREENS AND CRACKED
DRY DIRT
MIX ALONG THE PATH
SMOKE OF FIRE
EMBERS LEAVE
THE TRAIL
OF BATTLE
LOOKING UP
TO SEE
THE SKY
BLUE AND CLOUDED
STILL IN ITS
GRACES
MOVING PASSED
THAT SPACE
WHERE ONCE
BUILDINGS STOOD
NO LONGER THERE
ASHES
AND DUST
THEN FORWARD
THROUGH THE SNOW
SOME PARTS
MELTED SOME NOT
THE BROKEN
BRIDGE STANDS
AND I SEE THE
TEMPLE THERE
STILL STANDING
STILL WITH
SUN BEHIND IT
SHINING
EDGES FRAYED
OF TAPESTRIES
LEFT TO THE WIND
DOORS OPEN
NOT AS USUAL
NO ONE AROUND
I REACH OUT
TO CROSS
THAT NOW BROKEN
BRIDGE
KNOWING
I AM NOT ALLOWED
BUT I CAN
SEE IT
I CAN FEEL IT
AND I CAN
CRY…
IN MY SILENCE
WAY OF WHO
I AM
AND WHAT COST
IT HAS BEEN
FOR CENTURIES
LOST
TO THE HALLS
OF JOY AND LAUGHTER
OF MEAD
AND
STRONG WORDS
OF THE PIT
OF FIGHTERS
TESTING THEIR SKILLS
AND THE BURNING
HEARTH
IN THE CENTER
SCORCHED WOOD
SMELL RINGS
IN MY NOSE
AS I CROSS
THE FROZEN RIVER
BELOW
AND CLIMB
THE SIDE
WALKING IN
TO THE DOORS
A FLICKERING
DIM LIGHT SHINES
ON THE OTHER
SIDE
I SEE IT
AND WALK TO IT
PASSING THE
BROKEN BENCHES
AND TABLES
AND WARES ALL ABOUT
SEEING THE
THRONE
I WALK TO IT
EMPTY AS IT IS
WITH ONE
BURNING CENSOR
LEFT STILL LIT
I KNOW NOW
AND WONDER
HOW LONG
WILL IT REMAIN
EMPTY
KNEELING ON
THE CUSHION
IN FRONT OF IT
I LAY MY HEAD
TO THE STEPS
AND LET OUT
A LOUD CRY
I WILL BE BACK
I WILL BE BACK
TOO LATE
BUT I AM BACK
THE SEAL IS STILL
THERE ON THE GIANT
OAK BEHIND
THE THRONE
I SEE A SMALL CRACK
BUT ITS STILL HOLDING
AND SO I FIND
THE RED MARKING
AND LOOK FOR
MY TEMPERED JAR
AND BRUSH
ITS NOT THE SAME
BUT IT IS ALL
I HAVE
AND I FILL THE HOLE
SO THE CRACK IS
COVERED
AND I FIND A FUR
ON A BENCH
MOVE IT TO THE
TREE
AND LAY THERE
BELOW IT
AND FALL ASLEEP
WHEN I AWAKE
I AM BACK HOME
IT STILL IS IN MY MIND
THIS MORNING
AS I WAS WAKING
I HEARD
A SONG
AS IF FROM A CAR
FAR FAR FAR AWAY
ONE I HAVE
NOT HEARD
AND THEN AS SOON
AS I HEARD IT
I WAS NO LONGER
THERE
BUT HERE
AND BEGAN MY DAY
IN A SOLEMN
QUIETNESS.
MY DREAMS...
